It’s International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day celebrated annually on 8 March.

IWD has been occurring for well over a century and still to this day, continues to be a powerful platform that unifies and drives action for gender equality, while celebrating the social, cultural, economic and political achievements of women.

Where it all began
In the early 1900’s, the almighty and tenacious Suffragettes forged purposeful action for equality. It was the Suffragettes who started IWD, with the first officially named “lnternational Women’s Day” event held in 1911. Till this day IWD continues to grow from strength to strength. Not belonging to any specific country, group or organisation but to all groups collectively all around the world.

In the photos, you see several of our female and male colleagues from a few of our destinations and Mallorca striking a pose, for this year’s theme #BalanceforBetter.

As modern day Suffragettes – female, male and all genders we all have a part to play to help build a gender-balanced world where we can see gender-balanced boardrooms, a gender-balanced government, gender-balanced media coverage and a gender-balance of employees.

In the words of Barack Obama ‘Empowering women isn’t just the right thing to do – it’s the smart thing to do’

Better the balance, better the world #BalanceforBetter.
